Instagram offers you the opportunity to exchange private messages with your friends and followers - far away from the Instagram feed, stories or comments. This function is called "Instagram Direct". In this article, we are going to show you how to navigate to Instagram Direct and how to use it.
Where can I find Instagram Direct?
To access Instagram Direct, first open the Instagram app. There you will find the paper airplane symbol ( 1 ) in the upper left corner . Tap this icon to go to Instagram Direct. Another option is to swipe left from your home page ( 2 ). You can also send messages while viewing stories. To do this, tap within the story on the paper plane symbol that is displayed in the lower right corner ( 3 ).
If you are on the profile of the person you want to send a personal message to, you can also tap " Message ". You can see from a green dot on the recipient's profile picture whether they are online at the moment.

Create and send a new message
To compose a new message, tap on the pencil symbol . You can then compose and send the message..
Send photos and videos
In addition to pure text messages, you can of course also send pictures, GIFs and videos via Instagram. To do this, use the symbols in the lower bar, in which you also enter the text. With the blue camera symbol ( 1 ) you can send a self-deleting photo, with the microphone symbol ( 2 ) you can record a voice message, with the picture symbol ( 3 ) you can send a picture that is already on the memory of your mobile phone, and Send stickers using the sticker symbol ( 4 ), as the name suggests.

Create chat with multiple people
If you want to create a chat with several people, proceed as if you were composing a new message . In this case, however, add all recipients or participants to the group . You can then also make video group calls within a group .
