There are many ways to take a screenshot in Windows. In Windows 10, simply press the key combination [Windows] + [Shift] + [S] and the "Cut and Sketch" tool will open. If you are using an older Windows version or prefer the Snipping Tool, a keyboard shortcut you have created yourself can make your life easier. With just one shortcut, the program opens in a flash and you can get started right away. How to connect a key combination with the Snipping Tool is explained below.

How to create a shortcut for the Snipping Tool

1st step:

First open the Windows start menu by clicking on the Windows symbol in the lower left corner. Then navigate to Windows Accessories and open the folder. There you will find the Snipping Tool . Make a right click on the program and select first " more " "and then open the file location " from.

You are now in the directory where the Snipping Tool is saved. Make here again a right-click on the program and choose "from the context menu properties " on.

A new window will appear again. Open the " Shortcut " tab at the top and click in the field next to " Keyboard shortcut ". "None" should be there so far. Now press the [Ctrl] key . " CTRL + ALT + " then appears . Now select any key to complete your shortcut and click " OK ". In our example, the Snipping Tool now opens via the key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [S] .

Note : Windows plans to discontinue the Snipping Tool in future releases. You get the same functionality with the function " Cut and Sketch ". To do this, simply press [Windows] + [Shift] + [S] - with this you can create and save screen clippings as usual..

  4. In the " Shortcut " tab, click in the field behind " Key combination " and press the [Ctrl] key .
  5. " CTRL + ALT + " then appears in the field . You now simply press any key to complete the key combination, for example the letter S for Snipping Tool. Finally confirm with " OK ". In our example, the Snipping Tool would be opened using the key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [S] .
