The hotspot of iPhones or iPads actually works fine in most cases. From time to time, however, you simply cannot establish a connection to the device - which steps you can then try to solve the problem are explained in these instructions.

The hotspot doesn't work on the iPhone - you can do that

After each of the steps, test whether the hotspot is already working again. If not, just move on to the next step.

Follow the step-by-step instructions or take a look at the quick start guide .

1st step:

The first thing you should check is whether your cellular plan supports a hotspot. In a few cases, no hotspot is available through the mobile phone contract. You can easily see whether this is the case in the settings of the iPhone: If the item " Personal hotspot " is displayed in the first block , the cell phone contract is not the problem. However, if the menu item is not displayed, it is best to contact your mobile network provider .

2nd step:

In the iPhone's settings, tap on “ Personal Hotspot ” and deactivate the hotspot once. Wait a little and activate it again.

3rd step:

Change the hotspot's password. To do this, tap on “ Personal Hotspot ”> “ WLAN Password ” and enter a password . Then tap on “ Done ”. You must now re-enter the password for the hotspot on the other device.

4th step:

Switch all connections on your iPhone off and on again. Activate airplane mode in the settings of the iPhone , wait a while and then deactivate it again. Carry out this step for the device that you want to connect to the hotspot of your iPhone.

5th step:

Starting both units new . You can find out how this works with newer iPhones in this guide: Restart the iPhone X.

6th step:

Check if a software update is available for your device . To do this, go to “ General ”> “ Software update ” in the settings . If you see an update, install it.

7th step:

If the previous steps did not help, you can still reset the network settings. Please note, however, that this will remove all saved WLANs and Bluetooth devices . So you have to reconnect all WLANs and pair Bluetooth devices again. Tap to reset the settings to " General "> " Reset " and select " Network Settings ". Then confirm your entry.

8th step:

If this did not help either, a hardware defect or a major software error could be the problem. The best thing to do is to contact Apple Support . You can reach them at getsupport.apple.com . Simply select “ iPhone ” or “ iPad ” on the website and follow the instructions.
