We cannot deny that Apple devices are made to last over time and perform magnificently. However, since nothing is perfect in this life, sometimes we will need to put our iPhone or iPad in recovery mode to repair the device..
Put iPhone or iPad in recovery mode
We must bear in mind that to achieve this, the version of iTunes that we use must be the latest. So before we start, we must verify that we do not have any pending updates.
Enter recovery mode on iPhone 8 or later
We will have to press and release the volume up button, then press and release the volume down button and finally we will keep pressing the power button until the recovery mode appears. This does not happen immediately, so we will have to wait between 15 and 20 seconds to try again..
When we are in recovery mode, we proceed to connect the phone to a computer using the Lightning cable.
On iPhone 7 or 7 Plus
In case we are using an iPhone 7, 7 Plus or seventh generation iPad, we are going to have to start by turning off the device. After this we will keep pressing the volume down and power button at the same time until the mode appears on the screen. We will see the Apple logo, although we should not release the buttons yet..
When can we release the buttons? When we see a screen with the iTunes logo and a Lightning cable.
On iPhone 6S or earlier
We turn off the device. After this we will have to press and hold the power and start button at the same time. This we will have to do until the recovery screen appears. This may take a few seconds, the reason is to prevent you from accidentally accessing the screen.
On iPad with home buttons
In some iPads we find that they retain their home buttons. In these cases, what we must do is press and hold the start and power button at the same time for 15 seconds. The recovery screen will appear and ask us to connect the device to the computer.
On iPad without home button
In the case of new iPads, at least most, do not have a home button. So the process of entering recovery mode is similar to that of new iPhones.
We'll press and release the volume button closest to the power button, then do the same for the button furthest away. Finally, we press and hold the power button until the recovery screen appears.
There are some different button configurations that we will find on iPad. In case our device has volume buttons on the top, we will see it this way.
The ones with the volume buttons on the sides will follow the basic procedure: press and release the upper volume button, then the lower one, and then hold down the power button.
